YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown Police said the victim of Tuesday night’s fatal crash on Interstate six hundred eighty in Youngstown was Skyler Hamrick, 20, of Poland.
A Youngstown Police representative confirmed that police have recovered a black box from the car that would provide more details on the crash, such as how prompt the car was traveling, but are waiting for the Ohio State Highway Patrol to help decode the information inwards.
Police are also waiting for autopsy results from the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.
Interstate six hundred eighty northbound re-opened in Youngstown just before midnight Tuesday after the crash left a portion of the highway closed.
The crash ripped a car in half and left Hamrick dead Tuesday night, WKBN learned from observations and eyewitness accounts at the scene.
The single-vehicle accident happened around eight p.m. near where Interstate six hundred eighty passes under E. Indianola Ave., forcing the Ohio Department of Transportation to close Interstate six hundred eighty northbound inbetween Midlothian Blvd. and Shirley Rd. for several hours.
The accident ejected one person from the car that was ripped in half, according to a witness who claimed to be driving behind the car that crashed. That witness said that the person driving the car crashed at a high rate of speed before being ejected. It emerges that there was no one else in the car with the driver.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is investigating whether or not it is safe to drive on the E. Indianola Ave. bridge where it passes over I-680, as the crash may have bruised the bridge’s supporting structure.
