Colorado State Patrol identifies two people killed in 5-vehicle crash

Drivers identified in fatal wrong-way crash involving five vehicles on I-70 near Morrison

The Colorado State Patrol has identified the two people killed Sunday morning when a Chevrolet pickup truck veered into eastbound traffic on Interstate seventy near Morrison and caused a five-car crash.

Jeffery Stumpf, 54, the pickup driver, was heading west when he crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit several vehicles, the patrol said. Stumpf, who was alone in the vehicle, was transported to St. Anthony`s Hospital, where he died.

After Stumpf’s pickup hit the front of a two thousand six Toyota 4Runner, both vehicles rotated counter-clockwise. During the rotation, the pickup struck an eastbound white two thousand seventeen Jeep Wrangler, causing it to roll onto its passenger side. A 2nd eastbound Jeep, a crimson two thousand Wrangler Rubicon also was struck by the pickup. As the pickup came to a stop it also struck an eastbound Honda sedan.

The driver of the Toyota, Jodie Stewart, 52, of Idaho Springs, died on scene. Her passenger, a 17-year-old masculine, also of Idaho Springs, was transported to St. Anthony`s hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the white Jeep, Mark Brown, 54, of Golden, was transported to St. Anthony`s Hospital with serious injuries. His passenger, Karen Brown, 50, also of Golden, was transported to St. Anthony`s Hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver of the crimson Jeep, Todd Davidson, 46, of Golden, was transported to St. Anthony`s Hospital with minor injuries. His passengers, Gwen Davidson, 45, of Golden, and 16-year-old masculine of Golden were both transported to St. Anthony`s Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda, Sandra Maes of Denver, and her passenger, Thomas Antholz, were both uninjured.

This crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol and officials have not yet determined why the pickup crossed into oncoming traffic.
