Current Sea Blue Oval Rally comebacks Saturday proceeds go to SHS band
The third annual Current Sea Blue Oval Rally will be held Saturday around the courthouse square in Salem. The event is being organized by the Midwest Blue Oval Club, and the aim is to get as many historic Fords on display around the courthouse square as possible, but the car showcase is open to all special-interest vehicles.
This year the net proceeds will again be donated to the Salem High School Marching Blue Band Parents.
Rally organizer and very first vice president of the Midwest Blue Oval Club Randy League, a one thousand nine hundred seventy one Salem High School graduate, said the event is open to all makes, models and years. The entry fee is $20 and includes access to the car demonstrate and Current Sea scenic cruise.
“It will all begin at nine a.m. Oct. Eleven around the courthouse square with a showcase and shine type of car cruise-in,” League said. “Bring your special interest vehicle to the courthouse square and suspend out to have joy. There will be no judging of participants. Only three trophies will be given, Police Chief’s pick, Mayor’s Choice and Marching Blue Band most admired.”
Midwest Blue Oval Club conducts these events to raise money and donate it back to local communities that can make good use of it, so no money is spent on trophies or judges.
The group has been renamed due to organizational switches. The Midwest Blue Oval Club is now registered with the state as a 501C7 not-for-profit group. The club is also licensed by Ford Motor Company to conduct business and use Ford logos.
League said the club’s purpose is to conduct car enthusiast events in the Midwest and donate all net proceeds to local charities or other not-for-profit groups.
“Last year the event raised about $900 for the Marching Blue,” League said. “Our aim is to raise about $1,500 this year.”
League, now a resident of Lee Summit, has close ties to Salem and still possesses property in Dent County. His parents, Craig and Erma League, were natives of the area.
League said the format of the car showcase will switch a bit this year and the display is under the not-for-profit club umbrella. Both the car display and the cruise will be on Saturday.
There will be a break inbetween the demonstrate and the cruise for lunch.
The display area will break up about noon for a lunch break and then all participants should regroup at the Crossroads Shopping Center parking lot to begin a cruise to the Current Sea area.
“The cruise will include a scenic cruise around the Ozarks. Scenic stops will be made Akers Ferry, Round Spring and Alley Spring and then come back to Salem for dinner,” League said.
After returning to Salem participants are encouraged to join the group for dinner Saturday evening at Aranda’s Mexican Restaurant.
The Midwest Blue Oval Club formed earlier this year and has already conducted two other events. They organized an event in August in Buffalo and made donations to the local Shriner’s group and made another donation to a local food pantry. There was a demonstrate and shine also held inwards the Kansas City Speedway during a latest road race event and a contribution to the local Jushua Center there to help children with Asperger syndrome attend a summer camp.
League said the objective of Midwest Blue Oval Club is to always keep their donations in the local area of the events. Future plans are for a very large event during the Memorial weekend in Hermann in 2015. The club also plans to again do events next year in Salem, Buffalo and the Kansas Speedway.
