GREENSBORO, N.C. — A car has crashed into B Christopher`s Steakhouse in downtown Greensboro.
That`s after police said the car crashed into another vehicle before hitting the restaurant. The car smashed through the corner of the restaurant located on North Elm Street violating the windows. Police said four people were inwards the restaurant at the time of the crash. Two people near the front of the restaurant spotted the car coming and ran to the back.
The holder of the restaurant, Chris Russell says he and his employees are fortunate not to be injured.
“Appreciative. Grateful that nobody got hurt,” said Russell. “Angels were working overtime last night I guess.”
On Wednesday, the restaurant was packed with violated glass, curtains ripped down, and furniture thrown across the room.
B. Christopher’s looks more like a war zone than a steak house.
Workers spent the day boarding up the violated windows.
“It was very noisy. Glass kind of flew in one direction and it was noisy and it was certainly disconcerting,” said Russell. “It was alarming, I will put it that way.”
Some say they spotted this coming.
“It is sort of scary,” said Dr. Bill Carroll. “Of course, I’ve been in that restaurant many times. I have to say, I have looked out the window a few times and thought ‘This would be an effortless target for a car!'”
Dr. Bill Carroll lives above the restaurant — but he slept through it all!
“I didn’t realize that there had been the accident here in this restaurant until this morning watching WFMY,” said Carroll.
The crash happened around closing time. Fortunately, no customers were inwards.
Carroll says he’s just glad he didn’t stop in before he went to bed.
“I budge sort of slow because I have a cane and I stir kind of slow,” said Carroll. “I most likely would’ve been plowed down!”
Despite the scare, Carroll says he’ll be back for a steak or salmon soon.
“It is a little scary but I’ve been there so many times in and had such good practices both with the food and the people,” he said. “It’s not going to scare me away.”
“Accidents happen and life goes on and everyone is OK,” said Russell.
Greensboro police said the preliminary investigation did not expose alcohol as a factor of the crash. The estimated harm to the building is $30,000.
One of the drivers has been charged with failure to stop at a crimson light.
Russell says he hopes to have the restaurant back open by Friday.
The fresh glass window pane is expected to arrive in about two weeks.
