SAINT CLAIR — The Saint Clair Car Display and Cruise was a big hit with car enthusiasts Saturday.
The event was sponsored by the Schuylkill Valley Teener and Legion Baseball Association.
By the begin of the cruise at six p.m., two hundred twenty two vehicles were registered. Last year, the cruise had one hundred seventy eight cars.
“Our aim is usually around two hundred (vehicles),” Rich Scott, event organizer, said
The cars lined up on 2nd Street and its side streets for people to admire.
“There are a lot of nice cars here,” Bill Geist, Heckscherville, said.
Geist drove his one thousand nine hundred thirty Ford Model A to the showcase, tho’ he did not register it. He said he spent $Eighteen,000 to buy it and a duo thousand dollars to fix it up.
It pales in comparison to the money Dave Collier, 60, of Minersville, spent — $55,000 — to restore a one thousand nine hundred fifty five Chevy. He bought it for $Trio,000 in Fresh York three years ago. It has a 383-stroker and 475-horsepower engine. He said the upholstery still needs to be redone, which could cost $6,000. Collier said he has extra plans for the car, including a radio with a gauze deck.
Collier also possesses a one thousand nine hundred thirty Ford Sedan he bought in Hamburg for $25,000.
His wifey, Cheryl, said she is OK with him spending money on the car.
“It keeps him out of my hair and keeps him busy,” she said, adding he worked a lot of overtime to pay for the improvements.
Ed Flickinger, Ringtown, took time to admire the car. He also wields a one thousand nine hundred fifty five Chevy, which he bought for $Five,500. The vehicle didn’t include a motor or a transmission. He spent $24,000 to restore it.
Attending his very first car display, L. Roy Himmelreich, Shamokin, registered a one thousand nine hundred twenty three Ford T-bucket. He spent about $Legitimate,000 to restore it. He began the labor of love five years ago. When his 6-year-old son graduates from high school, Himmelreich said he will give the car to him as a bounty.
Brandon Brown, 30, of Pottsville, entered an energy green two thousand seventeen Honda Civic Si. He said he bought it when it had one mile on it, and now has seven hundred miles. He spent about $6,000 for additions including black flames, logos, a spoiler and speaker system.
The Best in Showcase award went to Tom Greis, Palo Alto, for his one thousand nine hundred forty one Willys Coupe.
