Lily and Shelley Wu were on their way to a graduation event at their Chinese school with their mother, older brother and sister, when all five were hit by a car overtaking a bus in Handsworth. The souls of the six and seven year old were blessed in a Bhuddist ceremony near to where they died, as their friends, family and neighbours gathered to pay their respects.

The funeral takes place today for sisters Lily and Shelley Wu, who were killed in a car crash in Handsworth in Birmingham two months ago.
Funeral date announced for sisters killed in Handsworth collision
The funeral for two sisters aged just seven and six who were killed when they were hit by a car in June will take place next Tuesday.
Lily and Shelly Wu died after the crash in Grove Lane, at the junction of Artobus Road in Handsworth two months ago.
Their mother Zhu Lan was earnestly injured along with the little girls’ brother Edward, 13, and sister Catherine, 12, who were rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Lily and Shelly Wu will ultimately be laid to rest with a remembrance service for their family at Seasons Palace in Smethwick and later at Handsworth Cemetery.
The chicks, who were pupils at Wilkes Green Infants, were crossing the road with their family to catch a bus to a local Chinese Sunday school when they were hit.
Before the service on Tuesday, there will be a petite ceremony at 9am at the scene of the crash where the children will be remembered. Respectful well-wishers are invited to attend. —

Driver in fatal crash released on bail
The driver of a car involved in a crash that killed two youthfull ladies has been bailed by police.
The pair, aged six and seven, were rushed to hospital following the crash in Grove Lane, Handsworth, yesterday afternoon.
But, despite the best efforts of medical staff, they died shortly afterwards.
A 12-year-old doll and a 13-year-old boy were still being treated for serious injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.
A 39-year-old woman remained in a critical condition.
The dead women were today named as Lily and Shelley Wu in a letter sent to families by their school, Wilkes Green Infants.
It read: “We are very sorry to have to tell you that two children from our school Lily and Shelley Wu have lost their lives.
“Staff and pupils are deeply saddened by their loss and by the influence on the family.
“We have arranged support for staff and pupils and we will be keeping in contact with the father of the ladies.
“We have told the pupils this afternoon and some of them may need support.”
A 34-year-old local man was arrested at the scene and was released by police this afternoon.
He was bailed to comeback next month pending further enquiries.
